The number one question I’ve gotten over the years as a photographer is “what should I wear for my session!?”. I get it, it’s often one of the hardest things to figure out when planning your portrait session. Here are a few tips to consider when putting outfits together:
- Whatever you choose, be sure that it reflects you and your style. I’ve always loved fashion for its ability to show personality. Not only that, but it also affects how you feel about yourself. I always suggest mom find something she loves and feels confident in, and then coordinate outfits from there.
- Coordinate outfits by finding a color palette you love. Pinterest can be a great starting point! I have a few ideas on my Pinterest page. I love mixing a pattern or two for every 3-4 people. Patterns can make coordinating easy, as you can just match the clothing to the colors in the pattern.
- Things to avoid: putting multiple people in the same color, clothing with large logos and bright/neon colors as they can be distracting. Bright colors will also cause the light to reflect into faces and cause funky skin tones.
- Mix up the bottoms! Stay away from doing the same jean color across all members of the family. Instead mix it up with chinos, varying colors of pants (while keeping them somewhat neutral).
- Stay away from open toe shoes for men, character shoes for the kids, or athletic shoes.
With every session comes a pre-session consultation where you have the option to go over any questions about wardrobe and get feedback on outfit selections. I’m always happy to share a list of my favorite stores to help you with your shopping as well!
