Birth rarely goes exactly according to plan—and Brittany’s story is a perfect reminder of the beauty that can still unfold in the unexpected.
Originally, Brittany planned to deliver at a local birthing center, surrounded by the calm, supportive environment she had envisioned. But as it often goes, baby Indie had a different timeline. When it became clear she needed to be induced, her plans shifted to a hospital birth instead.
What didn’t change? Her strength.
As an Oklahoma City birth photographer, I’ve witnessed different kinds of birth stories—but this one left me in awe. Brittany labored with such quiet determination, and even with the induction, she delivered Indie unmedicated. Watching her stay grounded, focused, and so fiercely connected to her body was incredible. There’s something so powerful about witnessing a woman fully step into her strength like that.
And then—just like that—Indie was here.
Those first few minutes after a baby enters the world are unlike anything else. The way time seems to pause. The tears, the laughter, the overwhelming relief. The love that floods the room the moment parents lay eyes on their child. It’s raw, and it’s real, and it never gets old.
Being there to document those sacred, fleeting moments between Brittany and her baby girl was such a gift. Her husband’s quiet support, Brittany’s tears as she held Indie close for the first time—it was everything I love about this work.
These images tell the story of how Indie came into the world, and how loved she was from the very first breath. Birth looks different for every family, but one thing always stays the same: it’s transformative. And I’m endlessly honored to help families hold on to these moments through photos that feel as honest as the experience itself.
