There’s something sacred about the first few hours after your baby arrives. You’re exhausted, emotional, in awe… and completely wrapped up in this tiny new life. Those early moments? They go by in a blur.
That’s where Fresh 48 sessions come in.
As an OKC birth photographer, I’ve had the honor of stepping quietly into those first hours with families—to document the raw, real beauty of it all. These sessions are shot in the hospital (or birth center) within the first 24–48 hours of your baby’s arrival. No big poses, no pressure. Just the beginning of your story, captured with honesty and care.
Here’s what you need to know if you’re considering a Fresh 48 session:
1. It’s Not About Perfection
You don’t need to have your hair done. The baby might be wrapped in a hospital blanket. And that’s the whole point. These photos are meant to feel honest and timeless—full of emotion, connection, and newness. They’re a way to bottle up that fleeting “just born” feeling before it’s gone.
2. Timing is Everything
Fresh 48 sessions happen in the hospital (or your home, for home births) within the first two days after birth. I stay on call around your due date, and once baby arrives, you or your partner just shoot me a quick text. We’ll set a time that works with how you’re feeling—and don’t worry, I keep things relaxed and unobtrusive.
3. It’s a Low-Key Session
This isn’t a styled newborn shoot with props and wraps. I use natural light and a documentary approach to capture what’s real: tiny fingers curled around yours, those squishy baby features, the awe in your partner’s eyes, siblings meeting for the first time. These images are more than just photos—they’re heirlooms.
4. What to Bring (Or Not Bring)
No need to pack anything special. If you want, you can bring a neutral swaddle or a simple onesie for baby. Maybe a cozy robe or a soft blanket from home. But honestly? All you need is yourselves. The magic is already happening—you don’t have to do anything but be there.
5. Why These Photos Matter
Those first hours with your baby are unlike anything else in life. They deserve to be remembered. Years from now, when your little one is no longer so little, these images will bring it all rushing back—the weight of them in your arms, the look on your partner’s face, the start of your new chapter.
As an OKC birth photographer, I believe these moments are worth preserving—not just for you, but for your children someday, too.
