When to Book a Newborn Photographer in Oklahoma City

Maternity & Newborn

If you’re expecting, you’re probably already balancing a full plate — work deadlines, doctor’s appointments, nursery prep, and trying to rest when you can.

So let’s simplify one thing:
If you’re wondering when to book a newborn photographer, the best time is during your late second or early third trimester.

Not because we need every detail figured out.
Not because you need one more thing on your to-do list.

But because future-you will be so glad it’s already handled.

As an Oklahoma City newborn photographer, I see it all the time — the moms who planned ahead are able to fully settle into those first weeks without scrambling to coordinate photos.

And that matters.

Why I Recommend Booking During Pregnancy

A lot of people assume newborn photos are something you schedule after baby arrives.

The reality? Most photographers are already booked by then.

When you reach out during your late second or early third trimester, I reserve space around your due date. I don’t put you on a fixed calendar day — I simply make sure there’s room for you once baby is here.

Booking early means:

  • You’re guaranteed availability
  • You’re not researching photographers at 2am while feeding a newborn
  • You can focus on recovery instead of logistics

It’s one less mental tab open.

When Newborn Sessions Actually Take Place

I prefer to photograph newborns within the first three weeks after birth.

You’ll often hear about the “first 7–14 days,” and yes — babies are very sleepy then. But I’ve found that allowing up to three weeks gives us a little more grace.

It gives you time.

Time to:

  • Physically recover
  • Establish feeding
  • Feel a little more steady on your feet
  • Get dressed without it feeling overwhelming

As normal as possible in those early weeks — that’s the goal.

Your experience matters just as much as the photos.

What Happens After Baby Arrives?

Once your baby is born, you simply reach out and let me know.

From there, we schedule your session based on:

  • How you’re feeling
  • How feeding is going
  • Whether baby arrived early or late

There’s flexibility built in. Always.

This isn’t a rushed appointment squeezed into your calendar. It’s a calm, baby-led session designed around your real life.

What If You Wait Until After Delivery?

If your baby is already here and you haven’t booked yet, please still reach out. I’m always honest about availability, and sometimes I can fit families in.

But if you’re currently pregnant and reading this, here’s my gentle advice:

Don’t wait.

The first few weeks are a blur. Beautiful. Emotional. Exhausting.

Trying to coordinate photography during that window — if you don’t have to — just adds unnecessary stress.

Booking ahead simply makes the entire process smoother.

Planning Ahead Makes Those Early Weeks Easier

You are already managing so much.

When you book your newborn session during pregnancy, you’re giving yourself:

  • Peace of mind
  • Calendar flexibility
  • A guaranteed spot
  • One less postpartum decision

And when the days feel long (but somehow the weeks fly by), you’ll have images that bring you right back to this season.

If you’re in your second or early third trimester and wondering when to book a newborn photographer in Oklahoma City, this is your sign.

Reach out now.
Let’s make a plan that feels calm + organized.

My love for photography began in a high school darkroom, watching images slowly appear. Since then, I’ve been drawn to quiet, meaningful moments rooted in connection and home. As a mother of three and a film photographer, I approach each story with care, seeking what’s honest and lasting.

Here on the blog, you’ll find recent sessions, tips, and reflections—whether you’re a fellow creative, a brand, or a mother wanting to capture this season. I hope it leaves you inspired and more in love with your own story.
