Any family willing to wake up at 5:00 AM for a photo session? That’s my kind of people.
Megan told me they were morning people—which I totally believed—but I’m not sure she expected this kind of early. Still, the Hayes crew rolled up with smiles, good energy, and the kind of connection that makes my job so easy. We met just after sunrise at Albion Basin, and let me tell you: it was worth every bleary-eyed minute.
As a Utah family photographer, there are some locations that feel almost too good to be true—and Albion Basin in the summer is one of them. If you’ve never been between mid-July and early August, do yourself a favor and go. The wildflowers are unreal, and when that golden morning light filters through them? Pure magic.
Why Sunrise Sessions Are Always Worth It
There’s something different about a session at sunrise. The light is soft and golden, the air is still cool, and the world feels just a little quieter. Kids tend to be happier in the morning (pre-snack-time meltdown), and the whole experience feels calmer, more intentional.
The Hayes family leaned right into it—barefoot kids in the grass, hugs that turned into tickle fights, and the kind of laughter that carries. We didn’t force anything or pose too much. We just let them be who they are, together, surrounded by mountains and wildflowers and morning light.
A Note on Sessions in Utah’s Wild Places
Utah has no shortage of beautiful spots, but Albion Basin in bloom is next level. If you’re dreaming of a session with me in this area (or anywhere outdoors in Utah), a sunrise session is the best way to beat the crowds and soak in the natural beauty. I’m happy to guide you on locations, timing, and how to make it all feel effortless and fun.
