A very favorite family session from this past fall took place at one of my go-to photo locations in OKC—beautiful Lake Hefner. This cute mama reached out saying she wanted candid, laid-back family photos, and hearing that makes my heart sing! It’s always such a joy when families are drawn to natural, connection-focused imagery, and this evening was exactly that.
We spent a golden fall evening running around a grassy field, playing games, snuggling, and just soaking in the joy of being together. Lake Hefner, with its beautiful light and scenery, is one of my favorite locations in Oklahoma City for family photos—it’s perfect for capturing both movement and those tender, quiet moments.
If you’re wanting to capture your family in a more natural way, be sure to find a photographer that reflects that style and then communicate with them what you’re hoping for. One thing I’ve found helpful is to think about the little ways love occurs within your family. Whether that’s snuggles, whispering loving thoughts into your little one’s ear, or sharing a spontaneous dance party—these are the moments that tell your story.
Another tip for a successful family session is to focus on the connection between you and your child. Don’t worry so much about what they’re doing or how they’re behaving. Loving them, talking to them, getting curious… that’s what will create love and meaningful connection in your photos.
My love for photography began in a high school darkroom, watching images slowly appear. Since then, I’ve been drawn to quiet, meaningful moments rooted in connection and home. As a mother of three and a film photographer, I approach each story with care, seeking what’s honest and lasting.
Here on the blog, you’ll find recent sessions, tips, and reflections—whether you’re a fellow creative, a brand, or a mother wanting to capture this season. I hope it leaves you inspired and more in love with your own story.
